Q & A

What was the first album you ever owned on vinyl?

My father had a huge vinyl collection that burned in a house fire we had when I was a teenager.  It wasn’t until I was gifted a collection of multi-genre music by the Fat Possum Record Label that I began my personal vinyl collection.  It’s become an addiction since then!

What have you been listening to lately?

Ernie K. Doe-Mother-In-Law is a fave of late.

Where is your favorite place in the world and why?

I love my bathtub.  It’s my office and relaxation-rejuvenation station.

What is the best live show you’ve seen, and why was it the best?

Beverly Guitar Watkins throwing down on electric guitar at Red’s Juke Joint in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  It was like seeing Hendrix.  She played with her teeth and behind her head.  It was so awesome!

What are some things you have to have on the road with you?

Lavender Oil, Green Tea with Honey and Ginseng by Republic of Tea, Black Tea, L-Theanine, tons of vitamins, and my journals.

Who or what influences your music?

Listening to nature is the greatest influence on my music besides keeping space in the day for silence.  The songs come when there’s silence and I always say that birds are the best singers.

What album do you play on repeat, and what do you love about it?

When I listen to music, I generally listen to the same song on repeat for days or even weeks.  Right now I’m back into Tina Turns the Country On!  I love hearing her cover country songs and knowing that she was raised in a small town like me…Nutbush is only 30 minutes from Humboldt, Tennessee.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I’d collaborate with Bowie because he was otherworldly or Alice Coltrane because she was mystical.
