She says of Old Flowers:
“Old Flowers is about heartbreak. There are a million records and songs about that, but I did not lie when writing these songs. This album is about loving and caring for the person you know you can’t be with. It’s about being afraid to be vulnerable after you’ve been hurt. It’s about a woman who is alone, but okay with that, if it means truth. This was my truth this year—my nine-year relationship ended and I’m a woman alone in the world, but happy to know herself.”
The first vinyl I ever owned was Nico-Chelsea Girl. I went through a huge Velvet Underground phase in high school.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Hawaiian slack key guitar, fado singers, and Billie Holiday. I’m finally starting to really dive deep into old jazz, too.
I have so many favorite places, but a place I always go back to is Bisbee, Arizona. It’s a little town ten miles north of the Mexican border. It’s like nowhere in the world; a town full of artists and eccentrics built into the side of a canyon.
I always travel with a nylon acoustic for the green room, sage to burn when the van gets smelly, a notebook, and chapstick.
I could listen to Neil Young- Harvest Moon over and over. It feels like home. There’s something so sweet and comforting about the songs and Neil’s view of his own world at that time that feels very in line with my own thoughts
